Yunca Engineering has a proud history of providing research, design, maintenence and upgrades for the aluminium industry.
In 2006 Yunca was engaged to redesign and lightweight the traditional cell hoods used in smelters including NZAS and Dubai's Aluminium smelter (Dubal). Coupled with offering three different insulating solutions, Yunca now has the contract to repair, design and manufacturer cell hoods for NZAS.
Yunca Engineering has undertaken research and development on cathode bar performance and improvement since the 1990s. The work is on-going.
Comprehensive inspection, servicing, and repair of Dog Magic conveyor trolleys and associated components.
Research, development and design of an aluminium slitting machine to supply bus in 6m lengths x 394 mm deep x 151 mm thickness, within tolerances of +/- 1 mm.
Developing modifications to carriers to increase longevity of operating times between service checks.
Yunca Engineering repair and replace rod-to-yoke welds for Aluminium smelters. These are designed to deliver zero failures Boyne Aluminium smelter and NZ's Aluminium smelter.
Equipped with the latest technology to deliver precision engineering and reliability on every project.

Yunca’s engineering and production capabilities include the CNC Deratech Ultima Press Brake, delivering high-precision bending and forming for sheet metal components.
With advanced CNC control and repeatable accuracy, it is ideal for complex folds, custom parts, and efficient production runs across stainless steel, mild steel and aluminium applications.

Yunca’s fabrication capabilities also include the CNC Deratech Varia Guillotine Shear, providing fast, clean, and accurate cutting of sheet metal materials.
Designed for productivity and consistency, it supports efficient blank preparation for fabrication, folding, welding, and general manufacturing processes.

This fully enclosed cutter features world-class components including Japanese servo motors, Taiwanese racks and pinions and a German cutting head. With a 4000mm x 2000mm transfer table and vacuum lifter, it easily handles:
The laser enhances Yunca’s full range of capabilities, including turreting, folding, pressing, welding, fabrication, linishing, powder coating, and vitreous enamelling,

The Farley Wizard II is the second generation of Farley Wizard Plasma Cutting systems, renowned as the most productive single-carriage cutting system available today.
The Farley Wizard II delivers high-performance plasma cutting for air conditioning ductwork, sheetmetal, and heavy plate fabrication. With its advanced design and versatile software options, it maximises productivity across a range of cutting applications.

Yunca’s facilities are designed for precision work in aluminium and other industrial applications.
Our capabilities include controlled surface preparation and coating through a dedicated paint booth, safe and efficient handling of heavy materials and finished products using forklifts, and precise dimensional verification and quality control with advanced digital measuring equipment.
Together, these systems ensure accuracy, quality, and reliability across every stage of our operations.

Yunca provides engineering solutions to pre-eminent research institutes to help interpret the science to enable large scale commercialisation of innovative new technologies.
Recent examples include power modulation technology for aluminium smelters, EnPot, and the Hydrogen Califont Heating System.
Solhaus is Yunca Engineering’s latest project; tiny homes designed to challenge conventional housing through refined architecture, quality materials and time-tested manufacturing.

In 2009 Yunca were approached by the Light Metals Research Centre (LMRC) at the University of Auckland to support development of the LMRC Heat Exchanger technology for application inside aluminium smelters. Yunca was asked to design the clamping/mounting system to quickly and easily mount the exchangers onto the pot shells, design a balanced duct and extraction fan system, and design the exchanger mechanism.
In close association with LMRC the two parties successfully developed the EnPot Heat Exchanger technology to the point it was successfully installed on 128 pots at TRIMET Essen Smelter in Germany.
In 2025 the EnPot Technology was installed on the Binzhou Beihai Smelter in Shandong, China - owned by the second largest producer of aluminium globally, China Hongchiao Group. Yunca retain the contract manufacturing rights for the critical components of the Shell Heat Exchangers continuing to support the worldwide application of the technology, via EnPot Ltd

Solhaus is a new project from Yunca Engineering, applying our design, build and manufacturing capability to high-end tiny homes.
Launching in Australia and New Zealand in 2026, Solhaus responds to a gap in the market for people who want to go small, but do it in a home that prioritises quality, design and liveability.
A smaller footprint, built to a higher standard. Quality materials, high-end fittings, efficient to run, and designed for how people live today.Solhaus is about redefining what small living can be, we’re proud to be launching these homes soon

The science behind the Hydrogen Califont heating system was developed by Callaghan Innovation and involves using photovoltaic electricity generated from solar panels, to separate and capture hydrogen from cold water. The stored hydrogen is then used for water heating.
Yunca were approached by Callaghan Innovation to develop the water heating system for this project. Hydrogen is a notoriously difficult product to use in water heating systems. Yunca took a commercial approach and built a prototype conversion kit to convert existing water heaters from natural gas to Hydrogen, rather than develop a bespoke unit.
Yunca has been awarded the manufacturing, distribution and marketing rights for the Hydrogen Califont water heating conversion system.
"Callaghan Innovation has been working with Yunca for a few years now on the Hydrogen Califont heating system, and has been impressed with how they have interpreted the science and come up with solutions for the water heating system… we have a great deal of confidence in Yunca’s forward thinking and background expertise when it comes to energy conversion and thermal systems." - A I Gardiner, Research Engineer, Callaghan Innovation

Yunca’s passion for innovation continues to shape its future. Today the company is helping develop and commercialise emerging technologies with a strong engineering foundation.
In 2006 Yunca was engaged to re-designed and light-weight the traditional cell hoods used in smelters by NZAS and Dubal. Coupled with offering three different insulating solutions, Yunca now has the contract to supply cell hoods.
