Established in 1977 by Terry Young, Yunca Holdings Ltd has grown from designing and manufacturing its own domestic home heating appliances in the Young’s family garage, to operating internationally with two manufacturing and engineering plants in New Zealand, and one in Goa, India.
Demand for Yunca Engineering’s products has been driven by Terry’s belief that to remain competitive, the company would need constant innovation and a laser focus on quality and optimisation.
Yunca Holdings Ltd was established by Terry Young.
Yunca acquired the new factory at 41 Onslow Street, it is still Yunca Holding’s HQ today.


Yunca Dunedin Production Manager, Harvie Bell, developed a range of gas heaters. These were produced and distributed until 2008 when focus shifted to wood burner production, Yunca Heating.

Yunca opened Procote Industries, an enamel finishing factory in Dunedin. As well as finishing Yunca’s domestic home heaters Procote Industries produces finished products for a number of other manufacturers, including Fisher & Paykel.
Yunca operated its own heavy engineering division, manufacturing transport trailers for a number of New Zealand’s major transport companies including Mainfreight, HWR Group, WD King and Toll. They also manufactured roll cages for a range of heavy machinery companies including CAT, Volvo, Hitachi, Komatsu and Sumitomo. The division shut down in 2008 to focus on specialised engineering for aluminium smelters.
Purchase of the Yunca India site in the Southern state of Goa. Production commenced in 2010, enabling Yunca to re-establish its export market. Mahesh Upadhye is Yunca’s India Operations Manager, and he upholds the company’s commitment to quality.
The first shipment of engineering product was also sent to the United Arab Emirates in 2006.
